Successful Resolutions - Reach Your Goal
Do you want to succeed at accomplishing your New Year's resolutions this year? If you follow these simple steps when choosing and executing your resolution the chances of reaching your goal increase exponentially.
- Make sure you really want to keep your resolution. Make a genuine, serious goal that you want to achieve success in. Your goal should not be dictated by someone else. This is a recipe for disaster and a guaranteed failure.
- Avoid following fads or trends, especially when dieting or trying to lose weight. Do lots of research and talk to professionals or others who have achieved long term success with a similar goal. See what worked for them but adapt the plan to fit you.
- Hve a clear purpose. Dreams do not always transfer to goals. Be reasonable about what is achievable and set a tangible goal that can be measured, ie> losing 10 pounds instead of "being thin".
- Focus on one resolution at a time so you can put all your energy towards succeeding at it. Break large tasks down into smaller ones and make a road map of how you will reach your goal. This will give you something to refer back to and will keep you on track.
- Create accountability by designating a friend or family member to share your success and monitor your progress.
- A support system is one of the most important factors in succeeding at keeping your resolution and achieving your goals. When you tell someone your goal and enlist their support you will work hard to stay on track so not to be seen as a failure.
- Persist until completed and be reasonable with your timeline. Just because it's a New Year's resolution doesn't mean you have to reach your goal by the end of January or even start your resolution in January. Choose a time that is more likely to help you succeed.
- Write down not only your plan of achieving your goal but how the success of the goal will benefit you in the long run. By seeing the benefit on paper you will stay motivated to reach the end result.
- For weight loss remember that diet and exercise go hand in hand. Pick something you'll enjoy or try different activities so you won't get bored as quickly.
- Learn to stay positive and motivate yourself by focusing on the small successes on your way to reaching your final goal. We are our own harshest critic so keep yourself on track by rewarding you small successes.
- Create reminders to keep you on track. Do what works for you and fits your lifestyle. It may be putting post it notes around the house or setting reminders on your computer or smart phone.
- Finally, if you don't succeed the first time try again.
